The Edinburg Historical Society is ready for another great season of speakers and events celebrating our local and regional past.
John Callaghan, executive director of the Hudson River Black River Regulating District, will be among those speaking at our programs this year.
Callaghan oversees the state agency founded more than a century ago to regulate the Great Sacandaga Lake and other Adirondack-area lakes for flood control purposes.
The district said it is planning a multi-year rehabilitation of the Conklingville Dam estimated to cost $40 million, which would begin in 2026. The district also continues to work on debris cleanup related to last July’s tornado. These and other topics may be addressed by Mr. Callaghan at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 20 at the Sandhill Schoolhouse on 8 Tange Road.
At 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 17, we’ll welcome Saratoga County Historian Lauren Roberts, who will discuss the women involved in the Battle of Saratoga campaign and the county’s plans commemorating events related to the 250th anniversary of America’s founding.
The county historian since 2009, she is a graduate of Skidmore College with a dual bachelor’s degree in anthropology and American studies and received a master’s degree in public history from the University at Albany.
Among the other events planned are a July 15 tour of the Batchellerville Presbyterian Church, an Aug. 2 summer food sale, an Aug. 19 tour of the Edinburg Rural Museum, a fall festival on Sept. 27 and a holiday bazaar on Nov. 8.
