The August program of the Edinburg Historical Society will be a tour of the Northampton United Methodist Church of Fish House at 7 p.m. Aug. 18. (The EHS board will meet at Sand Hill Schoolhouse at 6:15 p.m., then move to the church.)

The church is located at 1605 County Highway 110 and Old Fish House Road. 

The EHS summer bake sale is 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Aug. 1 at the Rural Museum on North Shore Road.

Open houses continue this summer at the society’s Nellie Tyrrell and Rural museums from noon to 3 p.m. Aug. 8, 15, 22 and 29. Stop in and take a look at our exhibits. Become a member for just $5 a year, $10 per family. 

We’ll also have attractive new t-shirts and insulated tote bags for sale. 

We recently found an old plastic bag at the Nellie Tyrrell Museum containing several photographic portraits. Many were taken in studios in Northville, Johnstown and Gloversville but many more were taken in Brooklyn, Vermont and farther away. 

Sadly, just a few prints identify the subject. The only clues are  the names of the studios they walked into one day long ago for a special keepsake.

Who were they? How did they live their lives?  We put them together on a poster at the Nellie museum as a way to remember them. And maybe, just maybe, someone today will recognize them.

The Edinburg Historical Society presents a free program Tuesday, July 21, about the tornado that struck the Great Sacandaga Lake area and caused major damage in 2024.
